Chin Augmentation & Implants
Define Contours With A Chin Implant
Chin implants are known to increase facial harmony and boost self-confidence in people with a weak chin. The proportions of the chin and nose directly affect each other; one can cause the other to look disproportionate. For example, your nose may appear large, when in reality, achieving a more prominent chin would actually balance your facial features. In this way, a chin implant can be used to create a more aesthetic balance to the face.
Dr. Sharon Giese offers chin implants at her NYC office, from the comfort and privacy on her onsite, AAAASF Accredited, surgical suite. In addition to increasing facial balance. A chin implant can also help define the jawline to create a clearer distinction between the chin and the neck. You may mistakenly think that a neck lift is an appropriate treatment to define the contours of your neck, jawline and chin, when a chin implant is a simpler, less invasive and more effective treatment to target your concern. Often, chin implants are performed in conjunction with other facial procedures, such as facial liposuction, to achieve your desired result. You are encouraged to speak with Dr. Giese directly during a personal consultation to discover if a chin implant, or a combination procedure with a chin implant, will best suit your needs.

Receiving a chin implant at our NYC, AAAASF Accredited, surgical suite is a relatively simple procedure and can be performed under local anesthesia with a sedative or under general anesthesia, depending on your individual preferences and needs. The implant will be inserted through an incision inside the mouth and will be placed directly on the original chinbone. Any scarring as a result of surgery can be hidden. The procedure itself takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour. Intra-oral sutures will be placed inside the mouth and will dissolve on their own.
As with any surgical procedure, some risks are involved. Dr. Giese will review these risks with you, but we encourage you to ask any questions you may have about the details of your procedure. There may be some dietary and activity restrictions after receiving a chin implant that you will need to follow while you heal to ensure a safe recovery. Bruising around the chin and neck is normal, and some people experience difficulty smiling and talking. Slight swelling and discomfort around the face during recovery may also occur. Should you experience difficulty breathing or chest pains, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Your results will continue to evolve for several weeks and even months as you heal. In most cases, the improvement is subtle but substantial; others may not be able to pinpoint the change, but they may note an improved confidence and facial aesthetic. In this way, chin implant results are natural-looking yet transformational.
