A contoured chin is an extremely sought after quality. A well-defined jawline inspires confidence and conveys a graceful appearance. However, the area below the chin is also considered a problem area for many. Submental fullness, also known as the double chin, can lead to an older, heavier appearance. Additionally, excess chin fat can take away from a balanced and defined facial profile that exudes confidence and beauty.
Dr. Sharon Giese offers Kybella double chin treatment in her NYC office. Reduce submental fat for a more sculpted chin in the comfort of our AAAASF accredited surgical suite!*
Non Surgical Double Chin Treatment
Submental fat can be caused by numerous factors, including excess weight gain, aging, and genetics. This type of fat has shown to be resistant to traditional fat loss methods, such as diet and exercise. Kybella is the first FDA-approved non surgical submental fat treatment. Made from a naturally-occurring substance known as deoxycholic acid, Kybella begins targeting excess fat cells upon injection and removes them from the body.*
Remove Submental Fat Without Surgery
Kybella treatments can typically typically last 15-20 minutes and are spaced out approximately a month apart. A traditional Kybella cycle can require up to 6 total treatments.* Many patients see results after 2-4 injections, though individual results may vary. Kybella can achieve long-lasting results, due to the fact that fat cells are removed from beneath the chin after treatment. Dr. Giese can help create a personalized Kybella treatment plan to fit your individual needs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Kybella
What is Kybella?
Kybella is the first and only FDA approved nonsurgical treatment that is used to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.”* The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
How does Kybella work?
You and Dr. Giese will customize your Kybella treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. Dr. Giese will give you a series of injections at each treatment session, which are spaced a month or more apart. Many patients see visible contouring in two to four sessions. Some results are visible weeks after treatment. Final contouring with skin retraction is seen three months after final session.*
Is Kybella right for me?
Only you and Dr. Giese can decide if Kybella is right for you. If you are bothered by submental fullness, or double chin, ask Dr. Giese about Kybella. Patients with fullness underneath the may be great candidates for having Kybella.
Will I experience side effects?
Some of the most common side effects of Kybella include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area. These side effects are also the most common side effects seen with Botox injections or dermal fillers, like Juvederm and Restylane. These common side effects are temporary.*
How long will the results last?
When injected into the fat under your chin, Kybella causes destruction of fat cells.* Retreatment is typically not expected once desired results are achieved. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.*
